Pope Francis and World Youth Day Concert in Rio de Janeiro

It was amazing to see 3 million people rally to visit Pope Francis in Rio de Janeiro on World Youth Day.

The streets in Copacabana were practically empty of traffic and most businesses were closed. Rio almost completely stopped for the Pope, who is still one of the most influential figures in the world.

The subways during the time Pope Francis was here, were so packed that it was like packing a can of sardines. Hordes of church groups from all over the world were touring Rio de Janeiro together and they all had their anthems and paraded their flags with pride!

Interestingly, I only saw one little american flag throughout the whole week, behind me during one of the Pope’s sessions on Copacabana beach.

Here he is cruising down Avenida Atlantica in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro.
